clark :: feast/beast :: warp

For over a decade, Clark has been apart of the Warp Records label creating experimental sounds for electronica fans all across the world. His latest release Feast/Beast is a double album, 29 tracks deep of remixes Clark created over the years for some of his favorite artists like Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Battles, HEALTH, Bibio, and Jamie Lidell. The collection gives a glimpse into his own personal mindset and presents an interpretation to how he sees these certain songs fit. Clark’s vivid imagination trancends an eclecticly strong contrast between haunting melodies, ambient piano loops, gritty percussion, and surprise transitions. Enjoy a few songs from the album and Clark’s personal thoughts on the tracks below:

“In some ways these remixes represent the range of music I have released over the 10 years in my albums. But they are more unhinged – there is more freedom involved when using other people’s material. And particularly when friends are involved, it can push you into electric new terrain.

I really enjoyed working with Alma Haser on the cover – I saw her work and instantly found it compelling, I couldn’t peel my eyes off of it. I love the idea of exploding hands and eyes that spread out in macabre yet meticulous detail you can almost touch. Music has always been a tactile thing for me – fleshy, substantial. Alma’s work perfectly matches that aesthetic.”

“I love the way Nathan Fake processes my voice on his Growls Garden mix it sounds…..

Such fine attention to detail with the swung hats, he keeps it all pretty off the grid, yet it still flows like a techno tune should.”

“This version of Fentiger came out the best. The percussion just seemed to fit the twilight optimism of his lovely melody.I recorded that percussion in my courtyard onto tape, in winter in the snow, as fanciful as that sounds.

This well meaning yet annoying dude kept on asking me if I made music and whether I used ableton live. You can hear me getting more annoyed as the recording continues, but I didn’t include that on this mix. I should have said ‘Fuck ableton live mate, I’ve got some twigs to snap!'”

Clark is currently co-headlining with Jon Hopkins and Nathan Fake opening for their North American Tour, including a stop here in Boston to celebrate the DJ and production school MMMMaven’s Two Year Anniversary Party. Tickets are on sale now!
