here in the dark…

I Can’t Make You Love Me is one of the most moving pieces of music ever written.

The original songwriters were Nashville’s Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin who specialized mostly in country, but when they wrote this song together they felt it was unlike anything they had ever created and were excited because they believed it was something special. When blues artist Bonnie Raitt got a hold of it, she turned it into her signature song that forever will be known as full of heartbreak and unrequited love. Altogether her album Luck of the Draw sold over 13 million copies in the U.S., and today acts like Bon Iver, and Adele have made it popular again covering and introducing it for new audiences to fall in love with.

Producer Schoolcraft‘s “Here In The Dark” samples Bonnie Raitt‘s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” into chill-wave bliss:

Adele‘s reaction says it all:

“This is one of my favorite songs ever. It truly truly just blows me away. It’s moving and makes me incredibly happy and really devastated and depressed at the same time. It makes me think of my fondest and best times in my life, and the worst.. and combined it’s probably a recipe for disaster. But I love this song, it’s just fucking stunning.”

Bon Iver‘s version may be the most painfully aware and unapologetically beautiful to hear:
