an evolving music and visual art media network

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR:
“Over the last eleven years as a music curator, my own personal taste has expanded to a new blend of genres, and introduced me to a broader spectrum of underground artists and bands. My own inspiration is stirring as I bring these 1300 past posts of memories along. My true vision of musicisart was to become one of those old 1990s music magazines filled with heartfelt reviews and honesty that inspired me as a little girl. I miss the beauty of what those moments of journalism use to to feel like. My goal now is to create the dream of becoming an independent digital publication of quality music and visual art reviews, interviews, and playlists. Although the happy and dark times, and attention spans of our lives may be different today. In musicisart, my hope is that the artwork, music, and words shared daily makes you feel and enjoy a form of magic that I felt in discovering, reading, and listening intensely growing up.”
Originally started in March 2006, musicisart began on the Blogger platform as a little indie music blog: musicisart.blogspot.com. The original theme’s layout (pictured above) included a black and purple backdrop with filigree floral designs and white body text. MIA initially was intended as a personal way to simply share music with close friends in far away cities. After three months of posting emotional thoughts about music with low brow visual art, the blog soon grew a following from 10 visitors weekly to 3000 visitors daily.
In 2007, technology brought MIA over to the WordPress blogging platform and received its first domain: musicisart.ws. As the years went on, small blog posts were shared here and there of special music recommendations of the year. After some investigation the site sadly was no longer being indexed properly due to the once known website extension of “.ws” becoming addressed as a marketing hack, and was now known as the official ccTLD (country code top-level domain) for the country of Western Samoa which is a small island between Hawaii and New Zealand.
On March 7th 2017, musicisart celebrated its 11th Anniversary by officially changing the domain to Musicisart Magazine: musicisartmag.com. Ready for the next chapter, musicisart is currently renovating its theme to show a modern approach with a musician and visual art online gallery, and monthly podcast to come. Striving and being inspired about writing again, MIA’s goal is to aim towards what the blog has always wanted to be respected as: an independent digital music and visual art media network.

ARTIST SUBMISSIONS: Submission Form
“One glimpse is all it takes to tell you that Music Is Art is something special. You can start by judging this blog by its cover—it’s one of the best-designed, most aesthetically aware music blogs around—but there’s much more to it than just a pretty template. For one, Danielle, the “dreamer/designer” behind MIA, focuses not only on excellent music, but on art, photography and writing and how they all intersect and inform the music. By sharing the sounds and sights that inspire her, she’s inspiring a growing number of readers on a daily basis. By documenting artists’ creative processes, she’s, in the process, creating a pretty substantial, always-evolving work of art herself.”
