Osunlade Samples Dionne Warwick

Producers Osunlade sampled Dionne Warwick‘s classic R&B original Walk the Way You Talk. Osunlade turned their creation “Dionne” into a powerful message with an addictive, motivating dance beat. Released by Dionne Warwick in 1970, the phrasing sampled plays the words “Just because you say things are gonna change, saying something’s wrong isn’t good enough.” The meaning still ringing true with the world today.

In 2017, DJ Khaled collaborated with Beyonce, and Jay-Z on the track “Shining.” Together they sampled Osunlade‘s Dionne featuring the same phrase looped over and over. By twisting the vocals into a flowing groove, DJ Khaled speeds up the tempo, blending the sample into the second verse as a musical backdrop to Jay-Z’s and Beyonce’s heightened soulful vibe.

“One glimpse is all it takes to tell you that Music Is Art is something special. You can start by judging this blog by its cover—it’s one of the best-designed, most aesthetically aware music blogs around—but there’s much more to it than just a pretty template. For one, Danielle Maree, the “dreamer/designer” behind MIA, focuses not only on excellent music, but on art, photography and writing and how they all intersect and inform the music. By sharing the sounds and sights that inspire her, she’s inspiring a growing number of readers on a daily basis. By documenting artists’ creative processes, she’s, in the process, creating a pretty substantial, always-evolving work of art herself.” - Nerd Litter
